FAQ - General
What is Internet Relay Chat (IRC)?
IRC is a form of live text messaging communication usually within a group of several people but private conversations from client to client are also possible. It usually features clients connecting to an IRC network consisting of several servers (Spidernet in this case) and joining channels (equivalent to chatrooms) hosted on that network to communicate with people. For further details about IRC, see the article on Wikipedia about IRC.
How can I use IRC?
To connect to our network, you must use an IRC client. There are many IRC clients available for free for all kind of platforms. If you have Java installed, you can try out our direct webchat in the webchat section. You can also get a full featured IRC client on your computer and join Spidernet with it. Here's a small overview of freely available clients for several operating systems:
- ChatZilla for Firefox - GNU/Linux, Windows
- Irssi - GNU/Linux
- mIRC - Windows (proprietary, 30-day trial)
- XChat - GNU/Linux, Windows (proprietary, 30-day trial)
- YChat (unofficial XChat build) - Windows |
